Blog Quest 3 - The Ship

This is the scene where Ralph sees a ship in the ocean, which could rescue them from the island. He is so excited and tells the others what he saw. Then he panics because he doesn’t know if the signal fire is still going, and runs up the mountain to check if it is, if it wasn’t he would restart it. As he is running, he realizes that if the fire was out, there would be know way to start without Piggy’s glasses. Piggy was far behind Ralph and there was no time to go back and get his specs. Once he got to the top he saw that the fire was out and the ship was gone. Soon after Jack and the hunters come back to the mountain where they were supposed to be, with a look of joy on their faces because they had caught a pig. Jack did not think that keeping the fire going was important. He basically thought that hunting was more important than getting rescued. This scene is important because it shows us that Jack has given up hope of being rescued. It is also important because it shows everyone that they actually do have a chance of being rescued if they continue to maintain the fire. The signal fire is really their only hope of being saved.
