Blog 13 - Revision of "Blog 8 - Simon"

Ralph and the others had just come back from their search for the beast. Ralph, Roger, and Jack were talking about how they saw the beast on top of the mountain. The littluns were tremulous at the thought of the beast actually existing. There is no way this could be true; a beast known for evil and savagery just cannot exist on such a beautiful island. It's not logical. Then Ralph started talking about how we needed to light the signal fire again. Jack, for the first time ever, decided to call a meeting. First he started to talk about how the beast, and then he started insulting Ralph's leadership. It was ridiculous, he was just doing that because he wanted to be the leader. He was jealous of Ralph's power. He asked everyone if they thought Ralph shouldn't be chief; only Jack raised his hand. He should have known that everyone respected Ralph more than him. At this, Jack started to tear up and placed a steadfast gaze on Ralph. He said he was going to go off on his own and didn't want to play this game anymore. Then he ran off along the beach and into the forest.
We continued our meeting and I got up the courage to talk. I said we should go up the mountain so I could prove there wasn't a beast. Then Piggy took charge and said the most important thing to do right now was to start a fire. He suggested we move the fire down here and everyone agreed that was a good idea. Then we built and lit the fire. Some people started leaving to go join Jack, Ralph started to worry. I left to go relax and think things out in my sanctuary among the trees, creepers, and animals. I crawled inside the woven open space and sat quietly. Eventually I got thirsty, but I just kept sitting.
After a while, I started to hear a squealing pig. Soon after I could hear the voices of Jack and some of the others. I looked around and spotted a pig collapsed on the ground, the boys were surrounding it. They were brutally killing it and were making a mockery of its life. They're such blood thirsty nits.
Jack cleaned out the guts and said they were going to have a feast. Then he cut off the pig's head and sharpened a stick at two ends. He put the head on the stick, and then stuck the stick in the ground. He said they were going to leave it as a sacrifice to the beast. They left to go start a fire.
The head stared at me with a grin. I tried to look away and close my eyes, but the image was imprinted in my mind. Run away, go back child, the head said silently. I tried to close my eyes and tell myself this wasn't happening. All I could think about were the flies sucking the sweat off my face and the pig head staring at me. I gazed into the pigs emotionless eyes. I could hear the pig's voice in my head. It called me batty and silly. It knew all these things about me, like it had been watching all of us the whole time we were on the island. As if it had been watching us slowly start to go insane and die one by one. The head asked me if I was scared of it, and told me it was the beast and would never go away. Something that could not be killed, but lurking deep inside me. Something that couldn't be escaped. It cackled menacingly. My chest got tight and I couldn't breath. I started to get dizzy. It said that we were going to have fun or the others would kill me. I began to black out and lost consciousness.
I woke up the next morning confused as ever. I asked the head what I should do, but there was no reply. I knew I had to go find out for myself if there really was a beast. I walked through the forest and up the mountain. By the time I got close to the top my legs were weak and my tongue throbbed with pain. I could see a humped thing looking down on me. When I finally got to the top, I found that there was no beast. There was only a dead man stuck in a parachute. I felt bad for the poor body that should be rotting away on the ground. It was stuck on a rock so I untangled the parachute so the body could corrupt into dirt in peace. I could not believe that all are fears and troubles on the island were just a figment of our imagination. The "beast" turned out to be a dead body. I went back down the mountain to tell everyone the good news.
By the time I got back it was dark out. I ran out of the forest to a party of chanting boys acting crazing, they have gotten so savage. The littluns screamed as I came out and I couldn't understand why. I stumbled into the middle of the circle, I yelled out the news about the dead man on the hill. I wanted to tell them that there was nothing to be scared of, their was no beast. No one seemed to be listening or care, they seemed to caught up in their game. Their spears were pointed at me. Oh, no! They think I am the beast! There is no way I can escape this cruel murder they are about to commit on me! I tried to tell the about the dead man on the hill while there was still time. It was too late. I was on my knees and then I tried to walk forward. I fell over a rock and onto the sand by the water. Everything felt like it was in slow motion. The crowd moved toward me and struck me with their spears. The gnawed at my skin and ripped me apart with their teeth and claws. Tears trickled down my cheeks as I died painfully slow, a feeling I would never be able to forget. I could see myself getting torn apart, with each rip I was getting a little closer to death. I thought about all the things I would never be able to do, the people I would never get to see again. I just wanted to go home, but the hope of being able to do that was long gone.
My blood stained the sand and got washed away in the rain that poured down on me, each drop stung my skin. The crowd ran away as the parachutist flew off the mountain and out towards sea. My lifeless body also moved out into the sea, back into nature, where I always belonged.

Blog 14 - Revision of "Blog 10 - Piggy's Death"

We couldn't believe what the savages had done. They basically made Piggy blind and helpless, all they think about is themselves. Piggy had a worried look on his face, we hoped everything would turn out alright. If the savages did a cruel thing like this, who knows what other kind of things they might do. Chills ran down our backs, we hope we can get off this island soon. For the rest of the night we couldn't sleep out of fear of the savages and the beast. We also wanted to comfort Piggy.
Our next new problem was how we were going to keep a signal fire going. There were only really three people who could have tended to the fire, Ralph and us. There was no way we could keep it going, we might not ever be rescued. Before we can even tend the fire again, we have to start a new fire, but we can't without Piggy's glasses. What are we going to do? I guess we are going to have to try to get Piggy's specs back, it's our only chance of being rescued and getting Piggy's sight back. We all talked and agreed we were going to go try and get Piggy's glasses back. Ralph, Piggy, and us cleaned up and set off along the beach. We brought our spears along just in case we needed them for defense. We dragged our spears along the ground so Piggy could follow them with his blurred vision. We were pretty frightened, we didn't know how Jack would react, he's completely lost his mind.
We passed where we had dance yesterday night, trying not to remember the horrible crime we committed. We said we would never speak of that incident again. We passed Simon's death area in silence.
Jack and his tribe were not there so went to Castle Rock to search for them. As we walked to Castle Rock we started to see smoke, and knew it must be the savages. We walked behind Ralph and Piggy as we got closer. Piggy was getting worried because he couldn't see what was happening. Ralph asked for the conch from Piggy and then was going to go ahead when Roger showed up. He was acting silly, as if he was a guard who didn't know any of us. Ralph was annoyed at this and blew into the conch to call another meeting. Savages appeared and blocked the way to the entrance. Ralph said he was calling a meeting, after all, he was still chief. Then out of nowhere, Roger started throwing rocks at us, he missed, thank goodness. Then Ralph asked where Jack was, the savages said he was out hunting. Ralph said he came to get the specs. Jack came back in a mask from his hunt from behind us, and we bolted behind Ralph, scared of getting hurt by Jack.
Jack and Ralph started getting in a fight about the specs. Ralph called Jack a thief for taking Piggy's glasses, this angered Jack and he stabbed Ralph in the chest. We were scared for him, we didn't know if he would be okay. Ralph took out his spear and swung it at Jack's ear. They kept fighting, using their spears as sabers. Then Piggy reminded Ralph that they came for his specs and to talk about the signal fire. He stopped fighting with Jack and told everyone that they need to help keep the signal fire going. They have no other way of being rescued. Jack told us to move back, we were puzzled over if we should listen . Then Jack said, "grab them!" We were so scared and confused we couldn't even talk, no words would come out of our mouths. The brutal savages took our spears and tied us up. We were helpless just like Piggy. Jack seemed to enjoy our pain, and gave and evil cackle. We were worried about if he might try to kill us. We didn't know what to do. "Someone save us!!!" we screamed. "We don't want to die like this!"Ralph screamed at Jack, "You bloody bloody thief! You're a beast!" They both charged at each other. They started fighting again, but Piggy interrupted them. He said things we all needed to hear, about being rescued to keep their civilization running well. Roger didn't care what Piggy had to say, he was trying to throw rocks at him. Piggy still held the conch with pride as he talked. Then we looked over at Roger and he had all of his weight on the lever. A great boulder tumbled down the hill and struck Piggy from chin to knee. The conch shattered into a thousand pieces. Piggy flew forty feet and landed on a flat red rock in the sea. It was one of the most gruesome things we had ever seen. Piggy's head cracked open and his brain poured out with unknown liquids mixed with blood, his legs and arms twitched a bit. Then the water washed over him. He was gone.
Then Jack threatened all of us saying that that was what was going to happen to us. Then he attacked Ralph, the boys swarmed around him. He ran before they got to him. Ralph left us alone with the savages. Jack said we had to join his tribe, but we refused. Jack left us to be punished by Roger. Tears started trickling down our face, we were terrified. We looked out where Piggy had landed and thought to ourselves, "We're next."

Blog 12 - Trial of Jack Merridew: Defense Preparation

Evidence:
The lever - The object that was used to push the boulder down the hill and killed Piggy. The most recent fingerprints on the lever show that Roger was the last one to touch the lever since Piggy's death.

Witnesses' testimonies:
Jack: Jack was the leader of his tribe. He stated he never planned to kill Piggy or Simon. The boys thought Simon was the beast, everyone was confused and contributed to killing him, it was not preplanned. The boulder on the hill was only there as protection against the beast, it was never meant to be used to kill any of the boys.
Roger
: He was one of Jack's most loyal followers. He admits that he killed Piggy and was never instructed to kill him by Jack. It was Roger's choice to kill Piggy. Jack never mentioned anything about killing Piggy or Simon.
Naval Officer: He gets to know Jack and others on the boat. He thinks Jack is a nice boy who was scared and confused. He thinks Jack never had any intentions of killing anyone.
Jack's Family: They testify that Jack is a nice boy and a born leader. He has some temper problems, but would never go as far as killing someone.
Maurice: He testifies that Jack was a great leader and provider, he would always do what was best for the boys. He also says Jack never instructed Roger to kill Piggy. He said Simon's death was not planned.
Percival: He says they all attacked Simon out of self defense, they really thought he was the beast. He also says Jack never made plans to kill Simon or Piggy.

Opening Statement

The night of Simon's death, the boys were having a party for Jack's new tribe and their successful hunt. They were in the middle of a ceremonial dance when a dark figure stumbled out of the forest. It was screaming something and the boys thought it was a beast. They recently went up the top of the mountain and encountered the beast. They were frightened, and as self defense they attacked the shape. It ran and screamed and everyone became chaotic and chased it to the shore of the beach and killed it.
Jack had only had his tribe for a few days, so he wouldn't have been able to have time to plan the murder of Simon. Jack had no reason to kill Simon, he wasn't a threat like Ralph. He didn't mention harming anyone, it was an innocent party. It was night, so they couldn't distinguish what had crawled out of the forest. They were confused and it couldn't have been a preplanned murder.
When Piggy was killed he had been giving a speech to Jack's tribe to give his glasses back. Roger had been throwing stones at Piggy. Then Roger pulled a lever that let a boulder roll down and hit Piggy. Ralph and Jack had been fighting, so Jack couldn't have instructed Roger to pull the lever. Roger aimed to hit Piggy even though Jack had told them to only use the rock against the beast. Roger knew it was not the beast, he saw Piggy giving his speech before he pulled the lever. Piggy fell into the ocean and died. The fingerprints on the lever show it was definitely Roger who pulled it.

Closing Statement
The witnesses have given their testimonies, and none of them have any evidence that Jack was plotting a murder. He was not responsible for Piggy or Simon's death. Roger admits freely that he pulled the lever on his own. Percival, a member of Jack's tribe states that he never saw or heard Jack talk about murdering Simon or Piggy.
When Roger killed Piggy, Jack was fighting Ralph. No one had seen him talking with Roger much. While he was fighting, a lot of boys were watching and none of the boys saw him give a signal to Roger.
When the boys' killed Simon, it was dark and a storm was beginning. There was lighting flashing and a dark shape ran out of the forest yelling something none of the boys could hear. The boys truly believed that there was a beast inhabiting the island, so they obviously were concerned with their safety. This was clearly self defense.
Witnesses say that Jack never instructed them, when the beast ran out of the forest they were scared so they protected themselves. Percival states that when he saw the "thing", he truly thought it was the beast. He didn't discover it was Simon until it was too late. All of the witnesses state that Jack did not call out to the boys to kill Simon, so there isn't any real proof that Jack committed any crime.
There is a large amount of evidence which shows that Jack is innocent. Witnesses state that Jack never mentioned anything about killing Simon or Piggy. There is the lever which shows that Roger killed Piggy, and the fact the no one else in his tribe who helped to kill Simon knew of any plan to kill him. There is not much evidence showing that Jack committed these crimes, he stole glasses but that was for fire, he needed that for survive. He never killed anyone for them. I'm sure the jury will find our client innocent, and acquit him of all charges.

Blog 11 - Lost Boys

I was out at sea when I saw the huge fire and smoke drifting everywhere. I told my crew to go and anchor at the shore of the island. I wonder what kind of people could have caused this kind of chaos. Then I could hear many ululations from the distance and a boy ran onto the sand. He was rolling in the sand and looked as if he was about to killed. I walked up to him and he cowered at my feet. He cried for mercy and stood up ready to face death. He looked confused but relieved when he saw me standing in front of him. I couldn't tell if he was a native to this island or if he had gotten stranded on this island.
"Hullo," I said.
"Hullo," he answered back.
Aha, so he was British. Other boys started arriving onto the shore of the island. There faces were painted and they had been carrying spears. I could visualize all the boys trying to start this fire, heaving logs and rocks together to try to make it. It probably went crazy and they didn't know what to do. Or maybe they were in a war and trying to kill each other with the fire, I shuddered at this thought.
I told the boy we had seen the smoke, and tried to comfort him with a smile. I asked him if they had been having a war, he nodded yes. "Nobody killed, I hope? Any dead bodies?" I asked jokingly.
"Only two," he said with a completely serious face.
"Two? Killed?" I asked in shock. He nodded again. I couldn't grasp the thought of these once innocent boys killing each other. I wanted him to elaborate, but didn't know if I could handle the gruesome details. I whistled nervously.
Then a littles boy came up to me and tried to tell me his name. Sadly, he couldn't remember it. I turned back to the boy I first met and told him we would take him and all the others back home. I asked how many there were, but none of them knew. I asked who the leader was and the boy I first talked to answered again "I am," he said loudly. I was disappointed that the boys had turned savage so easily. The boy tried to tell me they used to all be together, but that everything had changed. Then he started to cry, long sobs of sorrow and relief jumbled together. The others joined in and soon all the boys were crying. I turned away, and tried to give them some time to pull themselves together. I looked back at my cruiser, wondering if we would all make it through this war and wondered if wars in general would ever end.

Blog 9 - Piggy's Bad Day

Today turned out to be one of the worst days of my life. I woke up to the realization of what I had really done yesterday at castle rock. I had helped in the murder of Simon, a kind and thoughtful boy. I shuddered as I remembered the image of Simon laying cold and still, washing off into the beach. We would never be able to fix what we did on that day. I tried to convince myself that it wasn't our fault, it was an accident, andwe were scared. Simon shouldn't have been crawling like that, it's his fault, and that stupid chant and dance. We were on the outside, Ralph and I didn't do anything. Ralph knew what we had done it had been murder. I can't even say that word out loud, once I say it, the reality of the situation will sink in, I'm not ready for that. Ralph tried to tell and convince me of what we had done, he gesticulated to make it seem more life like. I can't deal with these problems, I'm just a kid. We finally talked each other into thinking we didn't do anything wrong and agreed we wouldn't talk about this again.
Later that night, was more bad news. I had been sleeping peacefully in a hut with Ralph when some noises in the forest had waken me up. I got frightened and thought it might be the beastie. I woke up Ralph and told him what had been happening. Then I heard voices that called my name, it was Jack and the other savages. My asthma started and I was getting an asthma attack. It felt as though someone had been smothering me, I couldn't breath. I thought Jack came for the conch but I was wrong. The savages came in and snatched my glasses and stifled them in the process. I was almost blind but I could see the phosphorescence of my specs illuminating as they ran off. My breathing became easier as they left, but I didn't feel any better. My auntie had bought me those glasses, those were the last connection I had to her. More importantly how was I going to survive on the island, I'm basically helpless now. The easiest target. Thinking about in now, I have no idea what I'm going to do in this situation. I just wished I could be back home with my auntie...

Blog 8 - Simon

Ralph and the others had just come back from the search for the beast. Ralph, Roger, and Jack were talking about how they saw the beast on top of the mountain. Blog Quest 3 - The Ship

This is the scene where Ralph sees a ship in the ocean, which could rescue them from the island. He is so excited and tells the others what he saw. Then he panics because he doesn’t know if the signal fire is still going, and runs up the mountain to check if it is, if it wasn’t he would restart it. As he is running, he realizes that if the fire was out, there would be know way to start without Piggy’s glasses. Piggy was far behind Ralph and there was no time to go back and get his specs. Once he got to the top he saw that the fire was out and the ship was gone. Soon after Jack and the hunters come back to the mountain where they were supposed to be, with a look of joy on their faces because they had caught a pig. Jack did not think that keeping the fire going was important. He basically thought that hunting was more important than getting rescued. This scene is important because it shows us that Jack has given up hope of being rescued. It is also important because it shows everyone that they actually do have a chance of being rescued if they continue to maintain the fire. The signal fire is really their only hope of being saved.

Blog Quest 3 - The Conch

This is the scene where Ralph first finds the conch in the water. This scene is right after the crash had happened and the survivors were scattered all across the island. Ralph had spotted the shell in the water, but didn’t know what its use was. Piggy told him it was a conch, which is used to call people by blowing into the opening of the shell. Piggy told Ralph to use the shell to call all the survivors together for a meeting. He was very concerned about if there were others on the island and if there were, he wanted to know how many. This scene is very important because this is where we first get introduced to a lot of the main characters and when they meet each other. It is also important because in the meeting the survivors decide who should become the leader. They vote and the leader becomes Ralph. Jack becomes the leader of the hunters.

Blog 7 - The Beast Is Real

We were getting close to the pig run, Jack leading us of course. Ralph knew almost nothing about hunting, I don't get how anyone would want him as our leader. Ralph's win was so infuriating, everyone will regret this big blunder once we starve without meat or get eaten by the beastie. If Jack was our leader the beast would dead by now, and we would have an infinite amount of pigs to devour.
Soon we stopped to eat, probably because of Ralph, he gets tired really often, such a wussy. We all stopped and ate and rested. I stuffed my face with as much food as possible, I was trying to get more energy so we could catch and kill more pigs, maybe we will even be able to catch the beastie....
Ralph was sitting and relaxing. I bet he's thinking about being home. I almost never thought about home, there was no use. We're never gonna get home anyways, it was just a waist of time thinking about it. Then Simon started talking to Ralph and they seemed to be getting along very well.
Once I was done eating, I looked out close to the pig run and spotted some hot, steamy pig droppings. I called out to the others from the coverts and told them what I found. We followed the pig tracks until we found a boar. It knocked Jack over and wounded him. The boar's tusks gleamed in the sunlight and it made many grunting noises. Ralph through his spear, and hit the boar right in the snout, at least he was good at something. The boar squealed and escaped from us. Ralph started fighting for attention, he was so proud of himself. Jack tried to take back the control showing his wounds from the boar. Then Robert started acting like the boar and we all made a ring around him. Everyone started hitting him with the dull ends of their spears and hurting him. I tried to get up close so I could see what was happening better, I love a good fight. I kind of felt bad for Robert though, it seemed like it really hurt. I got worried after a while though because it seemed like they were really going to injure him. Then they stopped and I was relieved. Robert sniveled as he complained about his hurt bottom.
While we were chatting and having fun Ralph start talking about the signal fire. The signal fire is just a waist of time, we're never going to get another chance to get rescued. "We've got to start the fire again," Ralph said uncompromisingly. Jack talked him into keep going to find the beast. Once again, Jack led us up the mountain until he found the place he still hadn't explored yet. Ralph tried to take control again, he said we shouldn't leave the littluns with Piggy all night. He said someone needed to go back and tell Piggy they would be back after dark. "I'll go if you like," Simon said sagely. He left through the forest, his favorite place. Then we continued up the mountain to find the beast. Then we finally found a pig track which was a dark tunnel. Ralph wanted to stop again, because he said it would get dark soon. Jack wanted to keep going but Ralph kept making excuses. Then after a while, he decided to go up the mountain, I could see his eyes were full of fear. Ralph asked if anyone else wanted to come. I said I would come, I'm not scared of the beastie. They seemed surprised that I was coming, I'm no wussy. I'd kill that beast all by myself if I could.
We headed up the mountain when my eyes started stinging and I started coughing. It was because of the ashes, we were on the edge of the burnt patch. Then Ralph started whining again because he didn't want to go any farther. He's such a baby. He doesn't deserve to be leader, Jack should take control. He told Jack to go alone, so Jack did. He's so brave. Ralph and I sat down against a tree and waited for Jack to return. Jack does all the real work, Ralph just takes credit for most of it.
Then Jack came back shivering, he said he saw something bulge on the top of the mountain. Ralph didn't believe him. I thought it was a giant frog. Ralph said we should go and see what it was. He lead us up, finally he was taking some leadership. We crept forward, I fell behind a little, actually getting a tiny bit scared of what we would find. Ralph and I went ahead of Jack. Jack whispered in my ear and pointed to where the beast was. We saw an ape like animal in front of us, it lifted its head and looked toward us. We were frozen with awe and fear. Then we ran as fast as we could back down the mountain. All I could think to myself is "the beast is real."

CLICK HERE: http://students.hightechhigh.org/~seconomy/lotf_maya_sky.wma

He's going out to call another meeting
All the time hes stressin' 'bout the ship
He wants to see if there's more than he sees on the shore
He calls them up
He's trippin on the sand now
He doesn't want the fire to be out now
He knows it's burnt out
Now his hopes out
Now he's losin'it
Jack don't care
Everybody! Put up your hands.
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost
Feel the beat now
If you've got nothin left
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost!
Back it up now
You've got a reason to live
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost
Feelin good now
Don't be afraid of the beast
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost
He was always thinkin bout the fire
He thought it was very very dire
He was dedicated
But the others hated
Ralph was right
But no one appreciated
He calls them up he's trippin on the sand now
He had to get up
They're not goin home now
He's tryin to forget it
But he just couldn't
That's how he lost it
When they crossed it
Everybody! Put up your hands.
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost
Feel the beat now
If you've got nothin left
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost!
Back it up now
You've got a reason to live
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost
Feelin good now
Don't be afraid of the beast
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost
To the beat (x3)
You got nothin to lose
Don't be afraid of the beast.
Boys go wild
It's somethin that they do now
Everyones got to do it sometime
It's okay, let it go
Get out there and light the fire
It's too late to be trippin on the sand now
Get off the ground
You know everything is goin wrong now
Stop what you're doin
You don't wanna ruin
The chance that you got to
get off this island
Everybody! Put up your hands.
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost
Feel the beat now
If you've got nothin left
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost!
Back it up now
You've got a reason to live
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost
Feelin good now
Don't be afraid of the beast
Say I don't wanna be lost
I don't wanna be lost
Nooo...nooo
Now you know what to do so go and start the fire.

Blog 5 - The Rainy Day

The sun was gone, engulfed in the clouds that began to form around it. I could feel it getting colder as I walked across the desolate landscape. As I looked into the horizon all I could see was a never-ending path to nowhere. Everything was dull and dead looking. There were crows cawing as they killed there prey, it sounded as if there were cackling as they slaughtered their innocent victim. I walked to a different place to try find somewhere filled with flowers to comfort me. As I walked it started to rain. The rain started out light, but then got into a heavy, deep pour. It sounded like a steady drumming noise.
I ran into the nearest forest taking cover under a big oak tree. Here, there were some flowers, but they were shriveled up from the dark and cold day. The flowers that weren't like this, were dead or chewed on by gross bugs. A lot of them were chewed on from the root so they had no chance of survival. The trunk of the tree I leaned upon was still dry because of its canopy. It looked mostly dead and hollow, desperate for water. It was chipped and crackly from the dryness like extremely dry skin that begins peeling, it was probably happy about the rain. The tree also had graffiti carved into it. It was scarred for life. I was alone except for a few animals scurrying along the forest trying to get to the comfort of their homes. Smalls rabbits hopped along the path, getting there delicate little paws were wet and covered with mud. Their once beautiful coats of fur, was now drenched with water and dirt. They shivered as they dashed across the road. I looked into the sky and there was no sign of sunshine anytime soon. I could hear thunder start like the rumbling of someone's stomach. Then lightning flashed, it looked as though there was a crack in the sky. Puddles of water began to form around me as the rain got through the openings in the canopies. The ground turned into a muddy mess. As I looked around, I saw an anthill being drowned with water. The ants were fleeing from there nice home, getting weaker with each drop of water that hit them. They had little chance of making out alive cringed at there inevitable doom. They had nowhere to go, for their one place of safety was being destroyed.
The wind blew ferociously, the trees rustled and shook in the wind, ripping dead leaves off of the branches. Papers, leaves, and who knows what flew through the air, they were probably going to end up polluting and littering the ocean.
The sky was still gray, and the rain continued to pour down. It seemed the rain would last an eternity. There was still no sign of the sun, it looked as though the it was lost in the sky forever. I just sat there, hoping the rain would stop and cried myself to sleep...

Blog 4 - The Ship

Today started liked all the other days. We were building huts, hunting, relaxing in the sun, playing, and keeping the signal fire alive. The ocean was beautiful and was opalescent in the sun. And once in a while we would see parts of land that would slowly vanish because they weren't actually there, it was just our minds playing tricks on us. Piggy calls them mirages. I think this is absolutely preposterous, because who would ever name something mirage, it's just abnormal.
At the time I was in the bathing pool. As I looked across the shore I could see the littluns building sand castles and having small quarrels what seemed to be about arguments of irrelevance. A little away from those kids was Jack, Bill, Sam and Eric and then Roger joined them. They were smearing clay on there faces to blend in to their surroundings. Jack is so naive, pigs won't be fooled by simple paint markings. He is so obsessed with catching a pig, I think he becoming mad. I'm sure glad everyone didn't vote Jack as our leader, everything would be total chaos.
It started to get hot under the tree so I decided to sit under the shade of a palm tree. I look out into the horizon hoping to see a ship in the ocean. There was no sign of a ship from what I could see. There was just Simon and Maurice playing in the water. Then Piggy spotted me and joined me under the tree. He started to talk about building a clock. Who needs a clock when your stranded on an island, there's no use for those things. After a while, I began to notice something in the distance. It was smoke! It must be a ship! I yelled it to everyone around me. When Piggy heard this, he asked if we had a signal fire going. I wasn't sure, Jack and the hunters were in charge of that. What if there's no fire? I quickly hurried up the mountain and the others followed. If there wasn't a fire, I would need Piggy's glasses. There was no time to go back and get them. I finally got to the top of the mountain and the fire was out and the ship was gone. "They let the bloody fire go out," I said to the others when they arrived. As we looked at what used to be the fire in disbelief, Jack and the hunters came into view. They were chanting and were holding a bundle between them. They looked like total fools. They had abandoned the fire and let us all down with their childish behavior. They were so excited that they had killed a pig and disregarded the fact that they let the fire go out. They told us about how they crept up on the pig and gyrated around it in a circle and killed it. I told him about the ship that passed. I told them they weren't supposed to leave and let the fire go out. Jack had an incredulous look on his face and became uneasy at the implications of everything being his fault. He argued that he needed everyone to catch the pig. I told him we could have gone home. Piggy was outraged at Jack's behavior and told him in a shrill voice that his obsession with hunting ruined everything. A smaller hunter began to whimper and cry at the thought of their missed chance to go home. Jack and Piggy kept arguing. Then Jack started mimicking Piggy in a malevolent tone. Jack got so angry that he broke one side of Piggy's glasses. All I could think of was my resentment towards Jack. "That was a dirty trick," I told him. He finally apologized for leaving the fire but didn't say anything to Piggy. "Light the fire," I said.
After we lit the fire, we roasted the pig. We ate and the hunters told stories, all while Jack kept arguing with the others. I couldn't stand the way our society was establishing, thing had to change. " I'm calling an assembly."

The fight - Blog 3

Aha! There are the pigs, tendrils of vines brushing across their skin. Their skin, it will make great bacon, nicely tanned in the broiling sun, so juicy and good. All we've been eating is fruits. I can't take it! I need some fresh meat to gnaw my teeth in. Oh, how good that would feel. If only I had something sharper on the end of my spear, I could kill them with one blow. I wish I could find a barb, that would be great for hunting. Hey, they are trying to get away In the festooned vines of the forest. There not getting away, not this time, for I am very furtive so I will catch them by surprise. I just had to kill one of those plump pigs so I just threw my spear. I missed! I went to go pick up my spear and by the time I got to it, the pigs were long gone. At this I made my way out of the forest and back to camp. I was so parched I asked Ralph for some water. I was bewildered about the fact that Ralph looked at me, but he didn't seem to know I was there. It was very odd, so I asked him again. He told me there was some under the tree and I drank some refreshing water out of a coconut shell. Then I looked out into the horizon, and the ocean glimmered in the sunlight. Then Ralph started complaining about how only Simon and Piggy had helped him build the huts. He said I have been hunting for days and haven't found anything. He was just flaunting his power in my face, and just kept whining about how I wasn't helping. If I was in charge I would make them work and be a lot more strict. I would be very oppressive until all the other kids listened and did what I said. Ralph was being a horrible leader, all talk and no action. They should have made me the leader. I told Ralph that I needed to keep hunting because we needed meat, but he didn't seem to understand that. All I could think about was catching a pig, something for the other to admire. To show that I am superior to them with my great hunting skills. Why haven't I caught one yet anyways? I'm a great hunter, they just disappear during the day as if they've vanished. They must be way up there on the hill sunbathing, there such lazy animals. Ralph kept talking even though I was barely paying attention and hadn't been listening to most of what he had been saying. Then Piggy started interrupting us, when it was none of his business what we were talking about. He's such a fatty. Then we all looked back to the shelter and Simon was gone. He's such an inscrutable kid, I don't understand why he does the things he does. I wonder where he went...

The mistake

Once again Ralph was blowing the conch. The conch, the thing that signifies our unity as a group. Yet, I don't even know if Ralph is a true friend. He disregarded my feelings and told everyone my name was Piggy. He also uses my ideas and takes credit for them. That's not what I call a friend. Just then my thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Ralph's voice. He was talking about there hunt and how they were going to use the conch shell as a sign of who was going to talk. There were also going to be more rules now, so we have more order. Then the crowd pushed a little boy to the front of the crowd, he was trying to say something with the conch but everyone was making fun of him. So using my nimble mind, I went up to that innocent boy and told everyone what he was trying to say. He said he saw a beastie in the jungle, a snake thing. Most people didn't believe what he said and Ralph moved on to talk about making a signal so ships or planes would find us. He said we should make a fire and at that everyone went running off like kids. Even Ralph left dropping the conch for the irresistible urge to defy our laws and just go start a fire like wild men. I was left alone with the conch to go and try to stop their childish antics. Of course, no one will listen to me. They never listen to reason.
Once I got to the top of the hill, there was a pile of wood but they were all puzzled over how to start the fire. Then Jack thought of using my glasses and officiously took them. Then Ralph took my glasses from Jack and started the fire. Ralph then gave me my specs back. I tried to tell them it was no use trying to keep that fire going and to control it but they wouldn't listen. Jack just kept telling me to shut up and I would just stare scornfully at that arrogant jerk. Then, the fire warped into a fiery monster and was going to burn down the whole jungle. Then a tree exploded and a tumult of huge snakes scattered across the jungle. All I was thinking at the time was that all the boys got what they deserved, the consequence of not thinking things out. I look around for the boy who first mentioned the snake he saw to see if I could comfort him if he was scared. I couldn't see him. Where's that little 'un?

Blog 1-The meeting

The crash was just a few hours ago, but it felt like years ago. I was fine except for a few bumps and bruises. All I remember was getting jumbled up in everyone's belongings as the plane crashed, I quivered at the thought of what might have happened to the others. I decided to go look for the other survivors on the island, if there were any. I clambered down the small cliff I was on and went into a forest to try to get to the other side of the island, at least I think it was an island. There were a bunch of vines coming down from the trees, I felt like it was a grating. When I finally got out of the vines I came to an open space in the forest. The trees were abundant with fruit. I brought down about 7 bananas and I was so hungry I devoured them all. As I finished eating, I heard a strident noise from the left, and ran as fast as I could in hope of finding other survivors. As I got closer to the edge of the forest I heard a clamor of boys' voices. When I got out of the forest I saw a group of boys around one boy blowing into a shell. Next to him was a decorous chubby boy who was sitting everyone down. They were all gathered by the lagoon. I sat down with the other boys and waited to hear what they said. Then, a group of boys in uniforms vainly interposed into the crowd. Suddenly, one of the uniformed boys turned pallor and fainted. One of the boys sat him down to let him rest. The leader of the uniformed boys didn't seem to care and talked about needing a leader for the survivors of the plane. He told the crowd that he should be the leader, but they decided to vote. Everyone speculated over who should be leader but most of voted on Ralph and he became the leader. Ralph became our leader. Jack seemed to have a look of indignation because of this decision. I hope there is not a lot of fighting while were on this island. I also hope someone finds soon...
